Aid & Attendance Helps Families Pay for Senior Care
We honor our veterans at Kingston Residence of Fort Wayne. Let us help you access the Aid & Attendance program benefits you’ve earned.
What is Aid & Attendance? It’s a tax-free benefit from the VA. It helps wartime veterans and surviving spouses pay for senior care. This includes assisted living and memory care here in Fort Wayne.
How do you get it? You can apply for FREE in person at your local VA office. Once approved, show us the approval, and we’ll apply the benefit to your care costs.
Need help with the application? Our team is here to guide you with that too.
Do You Qualify for Aid & Attendance?
To see if you might qualify, ask yourself or your loved one these questions:
- Have you or your spouse served 90+ days of active duty? Was one day during wartime?
- Are you 65+ or living with a permanent disability?
- Was your spouse’s or your discharge status honorable (or other than dishonorable)?
- Surviving spouses: Were you married to the veteran when they passed? Are you currently single?
The VA will also look at income and assets (savings, stocks, etc.) to determine you or your loved one’s eligibility.

How to Apply (& Avoid Scams)
Watch out for online scams. Some websites look official, but they aren’t. They might charge fees or push you to use paid advisors. Don’t fall for it.
Go directly to your nearest VA office to apply. It’s the safest and only free way.
Applying for Aid & Attendance is FREE through a VA office.
Avoid online applications that charge fees or claim to be official government sites.
What to Bring to the VA Office
Having these ready helps speed things up:
- DD214 (Discharge Papers).
- Marriage Certificate (and Death Certificate for spouses).
- Medical proof showing need for care.
- Income and asset information.
